The real Viability Ranking, as y'all know, is based on monsters at Rank 5. This is because more modern Legendaries have Evolving Traits that improve as they get ranks, and any monster of a special caste, such as Elites and Forsakens, has 4 moves locked behind their ranks. Because of this, unranked monsters are very, very different from their ranked counterparts, usually being much worse without a majority of their trait or their best moves. This blog post will go over where I believe a monster would be on the Ranking if it was based on their unranked abilities.

Unranked Tier Changes

Hornet: OP- to SS

Unranked Changes

Trait: Hardened

Moveset: Unchanged

Hornet takes a pretty huge fall without his ranked up trait. The loss of Area Dodge and Anticipation absolutely kill him, as Hardened alone is very mediocre and makes him vulnerable to denial, especially with cooldowns as high as his own. Thankfully, his great moveset goes unchanged, so he still has his insane team NER, his AoE PER + Nanovirus, and his useful Life Removal skills, but his trait loss is a big bullet to the head.

Nikasia: SS to S+

Unranked Changes

Trait: Area Dodge

Moveset: Unchanged

Let's just get the inevitable out of the way now. Nikasia is a monster that looks overwhemingly mediocre until you see the bigger picture and realize that she just so happens to have the exact precise combination of abilities with her moveset to take on the current meta, even if they look quite bad by comparison. However, the loss of Resurection Block is quite an effective gut punch, as her primary usage is as a Wyrmlad, Ragnarok, and Nisael counter by blocking their game-changing Resurrection moves. Without this in her kit, all she has is Area Dodge, high speed, and a lacking movepool that makes her outclassed by several other supports, such as O'Reilly. Now, let's stop talking about this before I vomit from having to praise the cat.

Warmaster Thalassa: OP to S+

Unranked Changes

Trait: Unchanged

Moveset: Loses Cryotan Breath, Waves Momentum, Plankton Eater, and Abyss Bottom

Unranked Thalassa is a huge disappointment when compared to Ranked Thalassa. While her trait is kept the same as always, the loss of both of her AoE Mega Freezes, her PER + Mega Freeze, and her Trait Disable + Extra Turn is a massive blow to her moveset. Without her signature Mega Freezes, her only AoE Denial left is a bland and easily countered AoE Freeze + Drowned. Her lack of Trait Disable makes her unable to even affect even the most basic of Freeze Immunity and Area Dodge severely cripple her. On the bright side, she does still have her PER + Extra Turn and Freeze Hater + NER + Extra Turn, but even with those and no Trait Disable, that just makes her horribly vulnerable to Anticipation. Overall, she is not nearly the beast Unranked as she has proven to be with those ranks. Sorry, people who got her thinking that she would be this good quickly.

Eisul: OP to SS

Unranked Changes

Trait: Taunt

Moveset: Unchanged

Eisul has it bad without his SC Mega Taunt. Without that out immediately, he has to wait for his turn to come in before he can set it up with Decoy. However, he's saved from going any lower thanks to his glaring similarities to Koralle Brutalis unranked, with the still-very-helpful Taunt trait, decent semi-denying capabilities with Possession, and tortures in the form of Curse and Nightmares. Also helpful is his (very mild) team support, with Precision and Possession Immunity being availiable as side-effects to specific moves. He's not too bad unranked, but still a far-cry from his current position as best Tank in the game.

Mop: SS- to S

Unranked Changes

Trait: Hardened

Moveset: Unchanged

The big reason Mop made it to SS- is because of his Rank 5 trait, Control Immunity. Control Immunity is an amazing trait on any monster, since it makes them invulnerable to all good forms of control other than CDA, so losing it makes poor Mop go down pretty bad. Without such a great trait, he then has to rely on his moves, which could certainly be a lot better. A 70 Thunder dmg move with only Daze for any additional effect and a 1-turn cooldown, an easily PERed buffing move (while still being fantastic if left around) that only has Double Damage (the effect an attacker most cares about) for one turn, and not one good AoE move to speak of unless you count Sinkin' In The Bathtub.

Urtikus: OP- to SS

Unranked Changes

Trait: Anticipation

Moveset: Unchanged

Hookuai has a huge advantage in the Unranked meta, since he was released before Evolving Traits. Urtikus, on the other hand, isn't quite so lucky, and similar to Mop above, loses his Control Immunity when dropping ranks, which hits him big time. With nothing but his Anticipation, Urtikus is extremely vulnerable to control, and that usually means any turns he gets from Anticipation will be spent Frozen or Corrupted. Thankfully for the flower, his fantastic moveset remains unchanged, and his stats are still great, giving him the big advantage over fellow Anticipator with no other trait, Tijen.

Grakon: OP- to SS

Unranked Changes

Trait: Hardened

Moveset: Loses Chants of the Swamp, Wisdom of Decay, Feel Free to Rot, and No Rest for the Wicked

Grakon losing Area Dodge and his best denying moves is a significant problem. Without No Rest for the Wicked, he has no Trait Disable, and without Chants of the Swamp or Wisdom of Decay, he has no PER. AoE Double Stun, AoE CDA + Bleed, and CDA + Extra Turn is pretty good, Boric Acid allows for acceptable torturing, and he's stupid fast, but the loss of the ability to remove effects or traits, he's got some really big problems unranked.

Wildbird: OP- to SS-

Unranked Changes

Trait: Hardened

Moveset: Loses You Appear To Be Dying, Bag of Squanch, Tammy's Betrayal, and Wubba Lubba Dub Dub

The loss of Wildbird's trait is a massive issue for his usability. SC: Pierce is extremely powerful, as it allows him to break past the ever-present Mega Taunt Tanks and Evasion, and Positive Effect Protection as a trait skyrockets his worth even more massively, as he now cannot be affected by the even-more-present PER, which combos greatly with his many self-buffs. Without this trait, he goes from all-powerful to horrifically outclassed, especially as he also loses his best AoE move, his self-Evasion + Extra Turn, his Mega Stun, and his 80 dmg move that also would've acted as a better Pierce application than his Anticipation Bait Thunder Weakness. Wildbird may very well be the most P2W out of his already stupidly P2W caste.

Ugluk: OP- to SS+

Unranked Changes

Trait: Control Immunity

Moveset: Loses Ancestor's Bite, Reptilian Ram, Furious Flail of Fate, and Your Last Taunt

Ugluk actually isn't all that worse off unranked. He still has his 70 dmg 0s 0 CD move, two moves with AoE tortures, and Battering Lizard, and the best part of his trait, Control Immunity, is still around. His biggest loss without the ranks is Your Last Taunt, the gruesome end of any enemy Taunt monster, but even then, he still has Taunt Hater on Battering Lizard. He's really not that much worse unranked, and should be a priority on Elite days if you need a good attacker.

Warmaster Ragnarok: OP to SS+

Unranked Changes

Trait: Unchanged

Moveset: Loses No More Failures, Dwarf's Stomp, Undead's Ritual, and Queen's Call

There are two specific losses here that really hurt Ragnarok when he loses his ranks, and those are his two incredible support moves No More Failures and Undead's Ritual. Without his Ally NER + complete Life and Stamina regain + Extra Turn and his Rez move, Raggy has just lost two of the most important tools in his moveset. Along with losing his Mega Control moves, one of which was also a Team Control Immunity move and the other of which his only PER, he ends up stuck with his much less amazing first 3 skill groups. He still makes it to SS+, though, as his remaining moves still have great uses of their own, and his unchanged trait is almost unholy in how amazing it is.

Lord Pumpseed: OP to SS+

Unranked Changes

Trait: Gravedigger + Team Sudden Death Immunity

Moveset: Loses Fear Itself, The Honking, Hayman Ghost Carnival, and Sons a Witches

True Vision and Sons a Witches are the most major losses for the spook man, though everything he loses is a big deal. Pumpseed finds himself at a major disadvantage by being a Forsaken (yes, I know he's not technically a Forsaken, but he acts identically to one in mechanics, so it counts), meaning he has both a huge Evolving trait and 4 incredibly SG4 moves. Without access things like his AoE PER + Mega Corruption, PER + Trait Disable + Corruption, and Single Corruption + AoE Corruption, all he's left with is a vanilla AoE CDA move, Single Mega Corrupted + Double Damage, Death Countdown, Stamina Leak, and a handful of tortures, none of which can compare to the horrors he can perform with his Ranked abilities. It's not all bad, though, as he thankfully still has various methods of denial, extremely high speed, and a trait that pairs amazingly well with Fatid and Warspellz, two monsters made infinitely better by the loss of their risk factors.

Wickah: SS+ to SS

Unranked Changes

Trait: Area Dodge + Team Poison Immunity

Moveset: Loses Chamomile, Nerium Oleander, Echinacea, and Abrus Precatorius

Wickah, at the very least, has much lower cooldowns in her unranked set than her ranked one. However, she moves down a tier due to the significant loss of her Pierce move, her Double PER, and her two best team support moves. Her trait, however, is actually pretty similar in quality, as she still keeps the best part of it. In terms of moveset, she becomes fairly similar to Ingenica unranked. Overall, she's not too much worse, but she still loses the magic that really put her in the top spot of SS+
